General Consulting: How Engagements Work
Senior campaign strategy scoped to your race — how engagements start, what they include, and how they're billed.
Last updated 08/05/26
General Consulting is senior campaign strategy delivered as an ongoing engagement — a strategist who knows your race, works your plan, and picks up the phone when things move. Because every race is different, consulting isn't an add-to-cart service: it starts with a conversation.
How an engagement starts
- Schedule a call. Use the Schedule a Call button on your Services page, or submit the consulting request wizard describing where you are and what you need.
- Strategy call. A senior strategist digs into your race — the district, the opponent, the money, the calendar.
- You receive a proposal. A scoped engagement with clear deliverables and a custom retainer sized to the work.
- Sign and start. E-sign the engagement and kick off — often by building your Voter Contact Plan first.
What engagements typically include
- Strategy and message development — what you say, to whom, and when.
- Voter Contact Plan authorship — the dated, budgeted roadmap your whole program runs on (see Your Voter Contact Plan under Managing Your Campaign).
- Communications planning — coordinating your texts, mail, ads, and earned media.
- Vendor coordination — making the pieces you buy elsewhere pull in one direction.
- Crisis support — when something breaks, someone experienced answers.
How it's billed
Retainers are custom-scoped, so there's no published price — your proposal has the exact number. Payment by bank transfer is preferred; card payments carry a processing surcharge, always shown before you pay.
What happens next
You'll typically get a call within days of reaching out, a proposal shortly after the call, and work starting as soon as the engagement is signed.
The first step is a call
Bring your race, your top three problems, and your budget reality — a senior strategist will tell you honestly where help would matter most.
