Choosing Your Account Type
The seven account types, who should pick which, and how firm profiles work for consultants and campaign managers.
Last updated 08/05/26
Right after you create your account, PolitiFast asks what kind of account you need. Your answer determines whether you manage a single campaign or several, so it is worth a moment's thought.

Running one campaign
Four account types are built around a single campaign or committee:
- Candidate — you are (or will be) on the ballot, and this account runs your race.
- PAC — you operate a political action committee.
- State party committee — you run a state-level party organization.
- County party committee — you run a county-level party organization.
If you fit one of these, pick it and move straight into the onboarding wizard — the wizard tailors its questions to the type you choose.
Managing multiple campaigns
Three account types are built for people who run more than one race:
- Consultant — you advise or run campaigns for clients.
- Campaign manager — you manage campaigns professionally, often several at once.
- Caucus — you run a caucus organization supporting multiple candidates.
These accounts create and manage multiple campaigns from one login, switching between them in the portal — no juggling separate accounts per client.
The firm profile: enter it once, reuse it everywhere
Consultant and campaign manager accounts get a firm profile — your firm's name, contact details, and standing information, stored once at the account level.
The payoff comes every time you onboard a new client campaign. Instead of retyping your firm's details in the wizard, click Use my firm info and those fields prefill from your profile. Across five or ten client campaigns, that saves real time and keeps your information consistent everywhere it appears.
Caucus accounts work the same way, with an organization profile for the caucus itself.
Not sure which to pick?
Choose the type that matches who is signing up, not who the campaign is for. A candidate creating their own account picks Candidate. A consultant creating campaigns on behalf of clients picks Consultant, even if there is only one client today — you will be glad of the multi-campaign setup when the second client arrives. If your situation changes or you think you chose the wrong type, contact the team and we will sort it out with you.
